Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Is limited for special cases only.

Breast Interventional Techniques:

Aspiration or drainage of cysts or abscesses is performed usually by the radiologist doctor using ultrasound guidance.

Needle Biopsy:

Needle localization: if a very small abnormal area is found on a mammogram a needle will be inserted as a guide for a surgeon who may perform a biopsy from that area.

Needle biopsy: the needle is placed in proper position using imaging guidance either with mammography or ultrasound.

Fine needle aspiration (F.N.A) using a fine needle

Core Biopsy using a large needle

How we perform the biopsy?
We work as a team: the radiologist and your surgeon with the assistance of the radiographer identified the area to be biopsied. Your breast will be compressed and held in position throughout the biopsy. Several x-ray images will be taken during which you will be asked not to move. After that we will localized the area and we perform the biopsy with a fine needle.

What I feel during the biopsy?
When the breast is anesthetized (local anesthesia) you will feel stinging sensation that will last a few seconds. You should not have pain. After the procedure you should have a little or no pain.

When I have the results?
Biopsy results are usually ready 2-3 days after the procedure.
